The RZSS Giant Armadillo Conservation Project in the Brazilian Pantanal uses camera traps to help better understand the ecology and biology of the species, as well as understand the role they play in the wider ecosystem.
Over the last few years the project has photographed a wide variety of different species that are using giant armadillo burrows for a range of purposes including, a thermal refuge, shelter against predators, a feeding ground or resting spot.
The team have shared some of the camera trap images taken last year with us, including giant anteaters, ocelots, red legged seriema, puma and southern tamandua:
