Conservation genetics

Conservation genetics allows us to identify exactly what it is we are saving, and at Edinburgh Zoo we host the only zoo-based conservation genetics lab in the UK.

The RZSS WildGenes team work with partners all over the world to translate genetic data into practical conservation management. We make leading genetics technologies accessible to practitioners on the ground and our work typically falls into these categories:

• species ecology
• captive or wild population monitoring
• reintroductions and translocation efforts
• the illegal wildlife trade
