If you are using a booking form
Please complete the form using block capitals, entering one topic only per form, plus the days, dates and times NOT suitable in the space provided; this will allow us as much scope as possible for timetabling lessons.
If you require simultaneous bookings, still enter one topic per form, and be sure to mark the appropriate boxes on both of the booking forms.
Send the entire booking form back to us, with a self-addressed, stamped envelope. We suggest that you make a photocopy for your own records.
When we have timetabled your request, we will send you back the top copy of the booking form, stating the time and date of your visit. This is your admission slip and should be presented at the Information Desk on your arrival at the Zoo.
For any further information either e-mail us at the above address, or phone our bookings secretary at the above telephone number.
School charges
Our current education charges are as follows:
- Local Authority Edinburgh and Midlothian schools - £4.00 per pupil
- All other schools - £5.00 per pupil
- Colleges and Universities - £5.00 per student
Please note – the variation in admission charges reflects the various authorities’ different levels of grant aid.
Accompanying adults will be allowed free of charge in the following ratios:
- Nursery - 1 : 4
- P1 to S6 - 1 : 10
- Special schools - 1 : 1
Due to limited space, the number of adults attending the classes in the Education Centre must be restricted to the ratios given above. Of course, you can bring as many adults as you wish for supervision in the Zoo Park. Additional adults must pay the current group admission fee of £10.00, unless they are members of the Society, in which case they will be admitted free of charge, on production of their membership card.
Children who are Associate Members are still required to pay the education charge.
Minimum charges
Normally you will be required to pay only for the number of pupils you arrive with on the day of your visit. Please note, however, that a minimum charge of £40 will be levied for all classes, except in the case of schools for pupils with special needs. Schools for pupils with special needs must pay a minimum charge of £25.00.
Cancellation fee
There is a cancellation fee of £40.00 for any class cancelled within two weeks of the scheduled visit, unless a rebooking is made at the same time.
Projects
Senior pupils working on animal behaviour projects who require repeat visits to collect data for their work are advised to take out Associate Membership, currently standing at £21.00. This not only allows free access to the Zoo for a year, but also entitles them to attend Members’ Evenings with guest lecturers, who often talk on related subjects.
School Zoo Membership
School Zoo Membership reduces all entry costs to £2.00 per pupil, and can be used as often as the school wishes throughout the year. Please note that School Membership can only be used in conjunction with booked education classes. School Membership costs are;
- Edinburgh and Midlothian schools - 1 - 3 streams £250 / yr - 4 plus streams £350 / yr
- All other state schools - 1 – 3 streams - £350 / yr - 4 plus streams £500 / yr
- Independent schools - 1 - 3 streams £400 / yr - 4 plus streams £550/ yr
Payment
Payment can be made by cash, credit card or cheque (payable to RZSS). Alternatively, schools can arrange to be invoiced.
