In-Service Courses
Edinburgh Zoo is keen to play a growing role as a Science Centre for Continuing Professional Development in the teaching profession.In-service courses can be arranged for local authorities, as well as for School Science Co-ordinators, cluster groups and so forth.
Our aim is to demonstrate to teachers how the Zoo, with its varied personnel and numerous facilities – over and above the fascinating animals themselves – can enhance delivery of the curriculum. The benefits on offer are not only applicable within the Park itself, but also back in the classroom, where a visit to the Zoo can act as a rich stimulus for ideas across a wide range of topics.
Our courses can address knowledge and understanding appropriate to teaching at the Nursery level through to Advanced Higher (and beyond). We can investigate areas such as Classification, Creating Keys, Conservation, Animal Behaviour and many more, including a number of fields that might be termed “Zoo Science”.
Teachers should, of course, make any applications through their own offices.
