Wolverine kits put their claws to good use

18/05/2016 in Highland Wildlife Park

RZSS Highland Wildlife Park’s twin wolverine cubs are doing very well and growing quickly. The three month old cubs have been exploring their large enclosure and are learning all the ropes from their mum, Tina. They also seem to have inherited her love for tree climbing and have been practicing getting up them, but their climbing back down skills still need some work!

The cubs are quite special as this is the first time wolverine kits have been born in Scotland; the third time they have been born and reared in the UK; and RZSS Highland Wildlife Park is only the second zoological collection in the UK to manage this. The twins were born in February, but spent the first two months tucked in their den.

There are currently only around 2,300 wolverines left in the wild in Europe and just 130 in captivity.
