Wild about Scotland programme reaches 100k people

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) and Clydesdale Bank are celebrating reaching over 100,000 people across the country in their four-year partnership teaching school children about Scotland’s native wildlife and how to protect it.

The award-winning Wild about Scotland programme travelled to all 32 local authorities in Scotland and more than 600 schools providing free, interactive wildlife sessions on a bespoke double decker bus functioning as a mobile classroom.

Barbara Smith, Chief Executive of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, said: “With the support of Clydesdale Bank, we’ve reached an amazing milestone and connected thousands of children and adults to the nature on their doorstep, creating lifelong appreciation for nature.

“Our mission at RZSS is to connect people with nature and safeguard threatened species, so it has been incredible to talk so many people about how they can help protect the abundance of native wildlife Scotland has to offer

“We are reviewing our outreach activities and how we can build on all we have achieved and would like to thank Clydesdale Bank and all of the staff involved in making the programme such a success.”

Our Wild About Scotland mobile classroom has reached children and adults in every one of Scotland's 32 local authorities and has been to every corner of our country during the past four years.

“The dedication and hard work of everyone involved has undoubtedly helped enhance our awareness of our environment and the fact we have now reached 100,000 people is a very fitting way to end our wonderful partnership. The Wild about Scotland programme and four-year sponsorship from Clydesdale Bank reached an end on 30 September 2018.
