On Friday October 3rd, the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland welcomed some very important visitors from JLR (China) and the Chinese media. We were delighted to show them around Edinburgh Zoo and, of course, introduce them to our giant pandas Tian Tian and Yang Guang.
As part of the tour the VIPs also visited the Education Centre and it was here that children from Canal View Primary School were introduced to Anthea Wang, Executive Vice President of Public Relations and Corporate Communications for JLR (China). The children welcomed Anthea by saying 'Hello' in Chinese and then presented her with a beautiful card that they had made. Afterwards they showed her what they had learned about China and giant panda conservation, following their earlier Beyond the Panda Outreach lesson with Sandie Robb. Thornton Primary School pupils put together a beautiful display to show the visitors some of the work they had done using Beyond the Panda online lessons and activities. This included giant panda outdoor enclosure models - which were a great hit - a selection of panda portraits and some beautiful pictures that complemented the Giant Panda Rhyme.
