Hilltop Safari
For an easy and enjoyable way to get to the top of the Zoo, why not enjoy a ride on our free Hilltop Safari?
Each trip starts at the sea lions, and then continues up through the Zoo to the very top of the hill, where passengers can choose whether to walk back down the hill, or continue on a round trip. The driver / guide gives a running commentary all the way, pointing out animals of interest, and giving information on our visitor facilities as well. Each trip takes about 30 minutes in total.
It runs every day of the year, apart from Christmas Day. We have two safari vehicles, and they both operate on very busy days in the spring and summer, and at weekends throughout the year. The tiger trailer can take 18 passengers, and the zebra trailer has room for 20 passengers and three visitors in wheelchairs.
The service runs from 10:00am every day, and finishes at 3:30pm in the winter; 4.30pm in the summer - depending on the weather conditions.
The Hilltop Safari service is free, but we are delighted to accept donations to our conservation fund.
