Sustainability Campaign 2018
“Help us leave nothing but animal tracks”
The Sustainability Team are very excited to have launched our first interactive campaign in 2018. Paws vs Plastic is designed to inform and engage our visitors about the problem of single use plastics and what we can all do to change.
As part of this campaign the RZSS Sustainability Team have been working with Have You Got the Bottle campaign and Marine Conservation Society (MCS) to install a Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) in a prominent location within Penguin Café at Edinburgh Zoo to help spread the important message of recycling plastics.

In conjunction with the launch of the RVM, the RZSS Green Teams at Edinburgh Zoo and the Highland Wildlife Park are showcasing plastic sculptures which have been created by staff, re-using lantern structures from The Giant Lanterns of China event and plastic collected at recycling stations around the parks. These will be on display during the Easter holidays with information on the sculptures as well as key facts and figures about plastic in Scotland and around the world. The Zoo will also be re-purposing a rhino transportation crate which visitors will be encouraged to fill with plastic bottles over two weeks to demonstrate the volume of plastic that needs to be recycled.
