Adam started his professional career working in private exotic animal practice, where he achieved the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons’ Certificate of Advanced Veterinary Practice in Zoological Medicine. In 2011, Adam moved to the USA to undertake an internship in wildlife medicine at the Wildlife Center of Virginia, a large wildlife teaching hospital. This was followed by a Masters of Wild Animal Health back in the UK at the Zoological Society of London, London Zoo and the RVC. After a second internship at Bristol Zoo Gardens, Adam was delighted to be offered the first European College of Zoological Medicine Residency in Zoo Health Management in the UK, at Edinburgh Zoo.
In 2018, Adam successfully sat both the European and American specialist board examinations, becoming an EBVS® European Veterinary Specialist in Zoo Health Management and an American College of Zoological Medicine Board Certified Specialist in Zoological Medicine, respectively. Adam currently combines his passion for zoo and wildlife medicine as a Veterinary Surgeon for RZSS, providing veterinary services to Edinburgh Zoo, Highland Wildlife Park, and numerous field conservation projects based in Scotland and abroad. He is the lead veterinarian for the Gough Island Restoration Programme, a partnership project led by the RSPB and Tristan da Cunha government. The project aims to restore the natural biodiversity of Gough Island, one of the most important seabird nesting islands in the world.

Professional and research interests
Adam has broad professional and research interests in zoological medicine. His Master’s degree thesis investigated reproductive endocrinology techniques in tapirs, and he has continued to further his reproductive disease interest whilst assisting with reproductive health investigations for RZSS. He also has a significant background in wildlife medicine and a special interest in disease risk assessment with regards to wildlife translocations and other interventions used in field conservation projects.

Truckloads of support for threatened wildlife in Brazil
A new 4x4 vehicle, co-funded by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), will enable conservationists in Brazil to continue their vital work saving endangered giant anteaters and giant armadillos across three different ecosystems.
