Seasonal Assistants

The Giant Lanterns return to RZSS Edinburgh Zoo this winter and we are looking for enthusiastic and friendly Seasonal Assistants to join our vibrant team to help support and ensure the festival runs smoothly - ultimately ensuring our visitors have a fantastic time! Come join us for a new and exciting adventure as incredible creatures come to life.

The Festival will run over 47 legendary nights from November 2019 to January 2020, between 4:30pm to 9.30 pm, i.e. you will be expected to work a mix of day/evening and weekends shifts. We’re looking for positive team players with exceptional customer service and communication skills to help us in the following areas:

Seasonal Admissions and Retail Assistants

  • Acting as the first point of contact through admissions - you will provide a warm welcome, selling tickets, providing information and assistance.  Often as the last point of contact also, through the gift shop - you will help process sales, cash handling, stock control and replenishment.

Seasonal Visitor Experience Assistants

  • Primarily based outdoors within the Zoo (or car park), you will be responsible for ensuring visitors have a memorable and positive experience from point of entry throughout their stay.  You may be based at one of the entrance gates and responsible for visitor admission or operational stewarding, proactively engaging with visitors around the site or driving the on-site visitor transport vehicles. Whilst providing a point of contact and information, you will also ensure all areas of the site are presented to the highest standards.

For both roles, applicants are expected to be educated to Standard Grade level, with a competent level of numeracy skills.  You will have a quality approach to work ensuring results are delivered first time, on time, every time.  Previous experience within a visitor attraction would be an advantage, especially in events, admissions, or a retail environment.

What you'll get in return

As a Charity, first and foremost, we work hard to make sure our benefits package is competitive and attractive. As well as the fundamental benefits like salary and a Work Place pension, we offer other rewards that can help you financially, can make work a bit easier and make life outside of work a lot more fun!  For example, 34 days annual leave allowance, life assurance, friends and family discounts, Employee Assistance Programme and free access to a whole host of other Scottish attractions with our ASVA (Association of Scottish Visitor Attractions) passes – not to mention free Lanterns tickets for you and your family!

We offer more than everyday job satisfaction - as well as our wonderful animals we have a highly professional, diverse and friendly staff community too. So, in working for RZSS you've not only got a great job in a very interesting organisation - you're also part of an amazing cause too!
