Edinburgh Zoo celebrates chimpanzee birthday bonanza

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) has shared photos of the chimpanzees at Edinburgh Zoo celebrating the 30th birthdays of some of their troop - Frek, Rene, Paul and Kilimi.

Keepers at the wildlife conservation charity helped the chimps mark the milestone with gift-wrapped boxes full of seeds and maize. There was also a decorated sheet for them to play with, which the youngest of the chimpanzees, Masindi, particularly enjoyed (pictured).

The zoo’s chimps live in the award winning Budongo Trail, which shares its name with the Budongo Conservation Field Station (BCFS) in Uganda. Thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery, RZSS supports the work of BCFS which combines cutting-edge research with practical action on the ground to study and protect wild chimpanzees.
