‘Double trouble’ snow leopard cubs named by public at Highland Wildlife Park

Highland Wildlife Park's adorable ‘double trouble’ snow leopard cub twins have officially been named Indra and Tama following a public vote. Indra is a male Nepalese name and Tama is one of the rivers that makes up the Koshi river system.
The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) invited supporters to choose from three pairs of names inspired by the landscapes of the snow leopard's natural range in Central and South Asia. After thousands of votes across the wildlife conservation charity's social media channels, Indra and Tama emerged as the clear favourites.
Indra and Tama recently received a clean bill of health during their first health check and are continuing to thrive alongside mum, Pari, at the park. The inquisitive duo are steadily exploring more of their habitat and beginning to eat solid food under the watchful eye of Pari.

- The other shortlisted names were Tamur and Nura, and Annapurna and Tara, all inspired by the landscapes and culture of the snow leopard's native range
- Snow leopards are native to the high, rugged mountain ranges of Central and South Asia. Numbers are decreasing in the wild. They are listed as a Vulnerable by the ICUN Red List. They face threats from habitat loss through mining and development, poaching for illegal trade and a shrinking prey base. Climate change also threatens large areas of their habitat in the Himalayas
