'Double trouble' snow leopard twins confirmed as boy and girl at Highland Wildlife Park

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) has revealed the two adorable snow leopard cubs born at Highland Wildlife Park in May are a boy and a girl.  Expert keepers and vets at the wildlife conservation charity confirmed the sex of the eight-week-old cubs during their first routine health check.

During their first health check the cubs were weighed and had their eyes and teeth checked by RZSS’s veterinary team. They also received their first vaccinations and were wormed and microchipped. The pair are both in good health and weigh around 3.5kg.

Lucy Petrie, animal operations manager at Highland Wildlife Park said, “We were thrilled to welcome two snow leopard cubs to mum Pari and dad Koshi earlier this year. It is very exciting to find out we have a boy and a girl and that they are both in good health.  

“They are becoming more confident every day and it is incredible to see them grow and develop. It is lovely to see how excited visitors are when they catch a glimpse of the cubs as they explore further from the cubbing den.  

At just eight weeks old, the cubs are still dependent on mum and are spending much of their time in the cubbing den. Visitors might be able to spot them exploring their habitat and learning more about their surroundings in the coming weeks.
