Edinburgh is really easy to get to from almost all of the country and the zoo is serviced by frequent public transport from the airport and the city centre (rail/bus stations), all of which stop right outside the main entrance.
Flying into Edinburgh Airport, take the 100 airport bus straight to the Zoo. It takes about 15/20 minutes and costs £4.50 single or £7 return. You also have the option to take the tram straight into town, but please note these do not stop at the zoo!
If you are arriving by train, you are most likely to arrive at Waverley Station (right in the city centre).
Edinburgh also has another station (Haymarket) which is actually closer to the zoo, but you can easily get to us from either station with the 100 airport bus which stops immediately outside both. It costs £1.70 single and takes about 15 minutes to the zoo from Waverley and 7 minutes from Haymarket.
Other buses which run to the zoo are the 12, 26 and 31. All buses in Edinburgh cost £1.70 for a single journey irrespective of how far around the city you are travelling, but beware...other than the airport bus (which accepts contactless) you need to have the correct change. No change is given, although you can buy multitrip tickets on your mobile. More information about Edinburgh buses generally.
Car parking will be free at Edinburgh Zoo for conference attendees.
For a more sustainable option, there is a traffic free route from Haymarket to the Zoo (map to follow) and we now have a Just Eat Cycle hire point right outside, where you can hire or return bikes under the Edinburgh-wide scheme for just £1.50 for an hour or £3 for a day!
Edinburgh can be expensive so if you can, book as early as possible. We have a hotel directly opposite the zoo for those of you looking for a longer lie-in in the morning, it would take less than 2 minutes to walk to the zoo. We've negotiated a deal for delegates attending the conference, with a mix of twin and single rooms for two nights from the 20th November:
£70 bed and breakfast p/n for single occupancy
£80 bed and breakfast p/n for twin occupancy
Bookings for this deal must be made before the 1st October 2019. A Credit/debit card must be given at the time of booking, and an individual cancellation policy will be 10 days prior to arrival.
Bookings should be made directly with the Holiday Inn quoting reference M7T, via phone 0131 314 7027 Monday - Friday 9am til 5pm or via email email@example.com.
Alternatively, Central Edinburgh Hotels are offering 15% off at any of their five stylish city centre hotels with a complimentary bottle of prosecco in the bedroom on your arrival if you book online directly with Central Edinburgh Hotels with code CE4.
