Animal Handling

Availability: Edinburgh Zoo

Lesson Duration: 50 minutes

Lesson Outline:

Take part in a hands-on session with some of our smaller Zoo animals, including invertebrates, reptiles and mammals. 
  • Pupils have the opportunity to get up close to zoo animals and handle them.
  • Not all animals are dangerous and humans must be respectful to ensure their wellbeing.
  • Animals are a highly diverse group or organisms, with different physical, behavioural or physiological features that we can use to identify them.
The session can be tailored to suit a topic of your choice eg. Evolution/Adaptations, Animal Husbandry etc.
 

Curriculum for Excellence Experiences and Outcomes:

  • SCN 1-01a “I can distinguish between living & non-living things & sort living into groups”

  • SCN 2-01a “Identify & classify living things & appreciate diversity”

  • SCN 0-12a “I can identify my senses and use them to explore the world around me”

  • Can be adapted to topic of study when requested (e.g. Evolution/Adaptations, Reproduction, Animal Husbandry, etc.)
