Dr Arnaud Desbiez

Research interests

Arnaud specializes in natural resource management on topics ranging from hunting to soil management. His current work in the Pantanal provides scientific research to search for, implement and evaluate conservation actions and sustainable management strategies. In the field he is currently evaluating use and selection of pasture resources by native and wild herbivores. He has also started a new study on one of South America´s rarest mammals: the giant armadillo. He is the convenor for the IUCN/SSC  Conservation Breeding Specialist Group Brazilian regional network,  a member of the IUCN/SSC Species Planning subcommittee and a member of several species specialist groups.

Background

Arnaud Desbiez is a conservation biologist who has been working in the Brazilian Pantanal since 2002. RZSS has been funding Arnaud's work since 2005 he was made their Regional Conservation and Research Coordinator for Latin America in 2010. Although Arnaud is French he has spent very little time in his native country and has worked in countries as diverse as Belize, Argentina, Bolivia and Nepal.
