Protecting chimpanzees in Budongo Forest

Deep in Uganda’s lush Budongo Forest lives a troop of around 800 endangered chimpanzees. Based close by is the locally run Budongo Conservation Field Station (BCFS) which was established in 1990 and has been supported by RZSS for 20 years.

Every day, dedicated members of the BCFS team patrol the forest, checking for snares, monitoring the health of the chimpanzees and studying the many other animals and birds that share their home.

A team of BCFS eco-guards patrol the forest each day, searching for and removing snares and traps. Juvenile chimpanzees are playful and curious and so particularly prone to being caught in snares, risking injury or death. The BCFS team’s dedication to snare removal has saved countless animal lives.
