The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) has recently announced the winner of their Young Conservationist of the Year Award 2022. Lucy Royds, from Edinburgh, won the wildlife conservation charity’s award for her work as a Conservation Action Team Youth Leader.

Lucy Royds, who attends The Mary Erskine School (ESMS) in Edinburgh, was nominated for her dedication and enthusiasm in helping to deliver monthly sessions with RZSS at Edinburgh Zoo whilst also working towards their Leadership Award through the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).

Beccy Angus, Head of Discovery and Learning at RZSS said, “The Young Conservationist of the Year Award is an amazing way for us to acknowledge and celebrate the importance of young people and their contribution to our wild world.

RZSS have pledged to create stronger connections with nature for more than a million people by 2030.

Ms Angus continued Lucy’s commitment to wildlife conservation and science will help inspire others to protect, value and love nature and we are delighted to recognise this.

Education has been at the heart of RZSS for over four decades. More information on the wildlife conservation charity’s learning and education programmes can be found at rzss.org.uk/education
