Happy-baras: Edinburgh Zoo's vet team reveal genders of capybara trio
Posted 4 Nov 2026
Edinburgh Zoo's viral baby capybara trio have had their first health-check with the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland's (RZSS) veterinary team. The wildlife conservation charity's vets weighed and microchipped the week-old pups and have confirmed they are two boys and a girl.
The zoo's last capybara pup was internet sensation Bru, who was born in May and the first capybara to be born in Scotland for 18 years. The most recent babies became a sensation themselves after the soap-opera antics of dad, Rodney. A romantic photograph of capybaras Rodney and Cali, Luna's sister, in the pool went viral on social media.
Edinburgh Zoo is now running a competition on its social media channels to decide the names of the adorable new arrivals.
