One small step for a hippo... Edinburgh Zoo’s Piper seen exploring outside for first time

Piper the internet-famous pygmy hippopotamus calf can now be seen exploring her outdoor habitat by visitors to the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s (RZSS) Edinburgh Zoo. The one-month-old hippo is getting to grips with all the exciting sights and smells of her home under the watchful eye of mum Gloria.
The wildlife conservation charity’s keepers are gradually increasing the amount of time Piper spends outside as she becomes bolder and more inquisitive. With an outdoor pool and sandy areas, the youngster is having great fun experiencing everything her home has to offer.
