More people than ever will be able to experience the wonders of nature, thanks to the introduction of reduced-price tickets to Edinburgh Zoo and Highland Wildlife Park.

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, which operates both parks, is offering discounted entry for anyone currently on Universal Credit, income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA), Housing Benefit, Working Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Income Support.

Those eligible will be able to visit the parks for just £7 per person – a discount of 70% for adults and 55% for kids.
Ben Supple, the wildlife conservation charity’s deputy chief executive, said, “We know that access to nature can have powerful mental and physical health and wellbeing benefits but with the current cost-of-living crisis, it’s more difficult than ever for some to access green spaces.

“That’s why the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland is making it more affordable for those on benefits to be able to access Edinburgh Zoo and Highland Wildlife Park, our gateways to nature.

“In doing so, we are taking another small step towards fulfilling our pledge to create deeper connections with nature for more than a million people and enable more than 100 communities to better protect our natural world, by 2030.”

Tickets are available for up to six people per household and proof of receipt of one of the above benefits must be brought along on the day.  To qualify, visitors must have received a payment in the last month and may be asked for photo ID.

The discount will apply until the end of September.
